SUMMARY:Holy Week
DESCRIPTION:During Holy Week some communities gather each day to meditate on Jesus’ final days before his death on the cross. Today’s gospel commemorates the anointing of Jesus by Mary\, a foreshadowing of his death and burial. Isaiah speaks of the suffering servant who is a light for the nations and who faithfully brings forth justice. For Christians\, Jesus’ suffering is the path to resurrection and new life. We eagerly await the celebration of the great Three Days later this week. \nMarch 31 – Holy Tuesday:  Stations of the Cross\n7:00 p.m. \nApril 1 – Holy Wednesday:  Holden Evening Prayer with Pastoral Dialog.\n7:00 p.m. (no dinner)\nLivestreamed on our YouTube Channel. \nApril 2 – Maundy Thursday\n7:00 p.m.\nLivestreamed on our YouTube Channel. \nThis evening our Lenten observance comes to an end\, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tonight we remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples\, but the central focus is his commandment that we live out the promise embodied in this meal. As Jesus washed his disciples’ feet\, so we are called to give and receive love in humble service to one another. Formed into a new body in Christ through this holy meal\, we are transformed by the mercy we have received and carry it into the world. Departing worship in solemn silence\, we anticipate the coming days. \nApril 3 – Good Friday\n7:00 p.m.\nLivestreamed on our YouTube Channel. \nLife and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday. In John’s passion account\, Jesus reveals the power and glory of God\, even as he is put on trial and sentenced to death. Standing with the disciples at the foot of the cross\, we pray for the whole world in the ancient bidding prayer\, as Christ’s death offers life to all. We gather in solemn devotion\, but always with the promise that the tree around which we assemble is indeed a tree of life. We depart silently\, and we anticipate the culmination of the Three Days in the Easter Vigil.

SUMMARY:All Saints
DESCRIPTION:As part of the All Saints Celebration\, we lift up all of the saints who have passed since the last All Saints.  We toll the bell\, remembering each person individually.  This remembrance gives great comfort and peace\, and gives those still grieving another opportunity to continue healing. \nOf all three years of the lectionary cycle\, this year’s All Saints readings have the most tears. Isaiah and Revelation look forward to the day when God will wipe away all tears; in John’s gospel\, Jesus weeps along with Mary and all the gathered mourners before he demonstrates his power over death. On All Saints Day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead\, but we grieve for our beloved dead as well\, knowing that God honors our tears. We bring our grief to the table and find there a foretaste of Isaiah’s feast to come. \nWe worship each weekend\nSaturdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 8:15 a.m. & 10:45 a.m.  All are welcome and we would love for you to come & worship! \nReadings for All Saints\nIsaiah 25:6-9\nThe banquet of the Lord. \nWisdom 3:1-9 (alternate)\nThe righteous are with God. \nPsalm 24\nThey shall receive blessing from the God of their salvation. (Ps. 24:5) \nRevelation 21:1-6a\nA new heaven and a new earth. \nJohn 11:32-44\nThe raising of Lazarus. \nGetting to St. James\nFor your convenience\, a small parking lot is available at the rear of the church\, off Zerfing Alley. There is also handicap accessible parking spaces and a ramp into the rear entrance of the church. SUMMARY:Common Ground Movie
DESCRIPTION:All are invited\, so please mark your calendar for Tuesday\, October 15 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Valentine Hall\, United Lutheran Seminary (Gettysburg) to view the film Common Ground. \nWritten as a love story to our children\, the film is a sweeping and uplifting story of the pioneers of the “Regenerative Movement” who are forgoing the toxic seeds and sprays pushed by Big Ag in order to produce tremendous quantities of nutritionally dense food while bringing our entire ecosystem back to life. \nCommon Ground profiles a hopeful movement of white\, black\, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate\, save our health\, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late. \nThe film is an urgent call to action and a plan for how we can save the future\, heal our climate\, and fix our broken food system – all through regenerative agriculture. \nUnited Lutheran Seminary\n61 Seminary Ridge\nGettysburg\, PA\nMovie viewing in Valentine Hall\nEnter building from the parking lot side\, accessible off of Springs Avenue

SUMMARY:Creation Care: "Do I Need This?"
DESCRIPTION:Creation Care Documentary Video & Discussion\nDo I Need This\nSunday\, February 18 at 4:00 p.m.\nSt. James Worship Space\nA good film for the Lenten season. \nThe Lenten season seems like a good time to reflect on our relationship with material things\, with “stuff\,” in other words.  How much is enough?  Always a good question. Please join the St. James Creation Care Task Force at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday\, February 18 in the Worship Space for a showing of Do I Need This? by independent filmmaker Kate Shermerhorn. \nAs the hour-long film unfolds\, Kate explores her own relationship with the material things that have come to fill her house and garage while helping her aging parents downsize and contend with signs of increasing dementia. \nAlong the way\, we also meet a number of other Americans much like ourselves: decluttering counselors and cheerful hoarders\, a Buddhist monk with a closet full of robes he never wears and a Texas couple who have turned their home into a crowded museum of “stuff” with every room dedicated to a different kind of vintage American product. \nThe tone of the film is gently humorous and compassionate\, not preachy\, as it explores our life as consumers. \nA brief discussion facilitated by panelists from St. James and the community will follow the film. \nLight refreshments will be served. Please join us if you can!  This is a free community event. \nDirections & Parking Availability\nSt. James is a Reconciling In Christ congregation; All are Welcome!\nOur facility is handicapped accessible.  Please click the link above for additional information.

SUMMARY:Family Halloween Party
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to this ever growing community-wide Family Halloween Party at St. James. \nWe decorate our gathering area and worship space for some unearthly fun.  We have carnival games to play.  Our Youth Minister\, Adam Michael organizes great games and activities for the youth.  And we have a few snacks on hand in case anyone gets the munchies.  We dim the lights in our worship space\, and our Minister of Music\, Jonathan Noel\, plays eerie (but fun!) music on our organ.  It really is a great evening for the whole family! \nThen we go out onto the steps of the church and Youth House to watch the Gettysburg Halloween Parade along York Street.  In the event of rain\, we will post-pone our event\, as it is in-junction with the Gettysburg Halloween Parade. \nCheck out the video of Jonathan playing organ music and some of the fun our youth had at the Halloween Party!
