Confirmation is an opportunity for middle-school students to affirm the promises their parents made for them during their Baptism.
St. James has a three-year Confirmation program for Grades 6, 7, and 8. Classes are held on Sundays (during the school year) from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the Youth House, located at 121/123 York Street.
Our Pastors, Youth Minister and several enthusiastic adult mentors serve as Confirmation leaders. During Confirmation we will think deeply about Luther’s small catechism, which includes The Ten Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, The Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Confession, and more. We will also study the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Life of Martin Luther. Last, but not least, we learn about what it means to become an adult member of St. James Lutheran Church.
There are no grades for Confirmation, but we track participating in several areas:
- Confirmation Class attendance
- Church attendance (make sure you sign the pew pad!)
- Service in and out of the church
- Attend All-Saints Confirmation Camp at Nawakwa at least one time during your three year confirmation class
Can’t make it to Confirmation Class, but still want credit for the week? Head to our YouTube channel to watch the weekly sermon, and then fill our our Sermon Notes!
After completing 3 years of confirmation classes, various retreats, and spiritual development conversations with the Pastors and Youth Minister, Confirmands are recognized during worship as young adult church members.
